PROGRAM GOALS 2024-2025

From the LWVMC By-Laws: Article 9 Program: The program of the LWVMC shall consist of action to implement the Policies of LWVUS AND LWVNC and those local issues chosen for study and action by the LWVMC

Empowering Voters - Voter Outreach for the 2024 election will include efforts to

• Register voters
• Help voters to make sure they are properly registered to vote - and that their vote counts
• Provide information about Voter Photo ID, early voting, etc, to enable voters to make a plan to vote
• Encourage Get Out the VOTE, especially with youth voters and registered voters who have not voted on a regular basis
• Provide voters with non-partisan information on candidates through VOTE411 and Candidate Forums/Meet and Greet

  Defending Democracy

• Monitor Board of Elections meetings for the 2024 election
• Continue regular observation of local governmental Boards through Observer Corps
• Study political districting within Moore County (County Commissioners and School Board) and assess whether at-large voting aligns with the League value of “full participation of all citizens in the democratic process.”

  Civic Education

• Affirm and encourage civic education and engagement through Civic Leader Scholarships and Observer Corps
• Develop opportunities for Civic Education for youth
• Help provide social studies teachers with civic education resources

  Civil Discourse

• Promote a culture of respect, listening, and compromise for our Democracy
• Help promote civil discourse techniques and strategies

  Issues for Monitoring, Study, and Advocacy

• Public Education
• Reproductive Freedom
• Gun Violence and Reforms
• Equal Rights Amendment
• Environment

Support the Ruth Pauley Lecture Series on contemporary issues

ALL League efforts shall be approached through a non-partisan and DEI lens, with efforts to partner with other organizations with similar missions.
